Painting for charity auction

Poppies at the Tower – a painting of the installation at the Tower of London which caught the imagination of the public in the period leading up to 11 November – is complete and has been delivered to Cancer Research UK.  It will be auctioned at the “Emeralds and Ivy” charity ball on behalf of the Marie Keating Foundation and Cancer Research UK on 6 December.

This painting illustrates the poppies installed at the Tower of London “Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red” by Paul Cummins. The Tower is portrayed as a cold backdrop to the warmth of the poppies and its representation incorporates newspaper cuttings from Monday 29 June 1914 announcing the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, the backdrop to the First World War.
